A Fitness to Practise Committee of the Education Workforce Council (EWC), sitting remotely on 8 May 2025, has found an allegation a relevant offence proved against school learning support worker, Richard Evan Davies.
The Committee found that Mr Davies:
On 6 October 2023, was convicted of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, contrary to section 47 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861.
As a consequence of the offence was sentenced to:
- a suspended sentence order – imprisonment of 15 months, suspended for 18 months
- an alcohol abstinence requirement
- a rehabilitation activity requirement
- 90 days of an electronic tagging residence requirement.
Having made this finding, the Committee decided that the conduct amounted to a relevant offence.
The Fitness to Practise Committee imposed a Suspension Order (without conditions) on Mr Davies’ registration as a school learning support worker for a period of 18 months (from 8 May 2025 to 8 November 2026). As such, Mr Davies, will not be able to work as a school learning support worker in a maintained school or non-maintained special school in Wales for the period of the Order.
Mr Davies has a right of appeal to High Court within 28 days.
